What did you think was the point to the activity?
The aim of this activity was to understand how directors take shots and how they are used to put together a film. We also learnt how to use software called Final Cut. This programme is used to edit your shots either by cropping or overlapping so it looks like all your shots where taking at the same time.
In regard to your finished sequence, what worked well?
I felt that the continuity of the scene went well as when we put all the shots together it flowed very smoothly. This made out video look professional. We did this by using Final Cut Express; we overlapped and cropped some shots so it would look like 1 shot had been taken. The videoing of the sequence was steady which gives a clear image.
What would you aim to improve about your sequence? What continuity mistakes can you see?
If we had a chance to redo the sequence I would shoot it again, and make sure the word “cut” was said at the right time. This would make the sequence more professional. Also I would add some sort of music in the background. This would be fast music as this would create suspense and tension for the audience. Some of the scene was a bit loud while others were quite. This made the sequence look and sound less professional. In the last few seconds the editing of the speech wasn’t accurate as the person said the same word twice.
What did you learn from doing this activity?
The main thing I learn t from this task was how film producers put all their shots into one motion. Also I learnt how to take shots from different angles e.g. shot-reverse-shot. Furthermore i learnt how to use the software Final Cut Express.
