Man On The Run

In our groups of four, we were asked to think of some sort plot linked to movie title called “Man on the Run”. The man on the run is a sub-genre of a thriller movie, where a character who is usually male finds themselves the unknown, enemy or the federal armed force. We had to come up with a short scenario where something intrusting and thrill ere could take place. As the movie was based on a spoof we had to think of past film scenes that we could include in our film. By this our film would be a spoof. The movies we took ideas from were “casino royal” and “cradle to the grave”. These two films had a lot of action and scenes of interest. This was a good opportunity for us to create a film as this would further help us when we start creating our thriller. We can now have some ideas of what to include.

My group idea of The Man on the Run film was a man walking home from a hard day from work. He soon realises that he is short on money so he goes to the cash machine next to the bank. He gets an unusual feeling as the lights are all turned off in the bank. As he enters the bank he sees a group of middle aged men acting very suspicious. A gun shot is then fired which triggers of the alarm. Police cars then arrive immediately surrounding the outskirts of the bank. One of the men then notices an entrance to escape. He then sprints towards the back entrance. A police man then realises and blocks him of. The other man escapes from the side entrance while the other one jumps through the window. The man outside sees him and decides to run after him. The man is chased through multiple building’s roof tops and cranes. We took this from the film Casino royal where bond is chasing his enemy at a building site. The man finally stops the guy. At this point there is fast paced music played. The music then stops and the man says “You dropped your gun sir” and then walks off with a grin.
The setting of our movie is near a bank. It is in a dark atmosphere which creates tension and suspense to the audience as the immediate assume that something bad is going to happen. The setting movies as firstly it is in the bank then it is in a place with huge buildings with cranes next to them. This place makes the audience feel more aware as they know something exciting is going to happen. We choose not to create out setting in broad daylight as this will not sound like a thriller.

The shots I would mainly use to film this type of movie would be close ups and long shot. Close ups can be used to illustrate the characters personality. This makes the audience feel some sort of bond between each character. Furthermore you can also reveal the characters emotion as close ups are taken to show the facial expression of a character. Long shot can be used to show setting. When we see the two men jumping from building to building this shot would be useful.  It contextualises characters in their location. I would also use a two shot, as this gives a sense of how they two characters relate to each other. Additionally I will use the match on action technique; this demonstrates a cut between two shots where there is no time passed allowing the scene to flow.
